Founded by Colby Drost in early 2019, Paragon Sports Consulting (PSC) has swiftly risen to prominence as a leader in the industry. PSC has successfully placed players in prestigious leagues such as NCAA, USHL, NAHL, BCHL, AJHL, elite prep schools, and midget hockey programs. Under Colby’s guidance, players have earned over $17 million in scholarships within just four years, with an average of $180,000 in scholarships for those committing to DI programs.
Colby has facilitated NCAA Division I commitments for 120 players across all conferences in college hockey, including Big10, HockeyEast, NCHC, CCHA, Atlantic Hockey Conference, ECAC, and Independent programs. His brand is synonymous with professionalism, respect, and a commitment to player development, guiding athletes through critical career decisions that have propelled them to success at collegiate levels from various junior leagues including USHL, BCHL, AJHL, and NAHL.
With extensive knowledge of NCAA issues, Colby has effectively handled compliance matters spanning academic eligibility, academic compliance, Major Junior Clearance, NLI releases, and European compliance. He has also navigated the NCAA transfer portal across all college hockey conferences, advocating for athletes’ interests with expertise honed over more than 24 years in hockey.
Colby’s immersion in the sport began as a goaltender for 17 years before transitioning to a career in hockey at 18. Over the past decade, he has held diverse roles in coaching, scouting, and hockey operations across midget, prep, junior, and college hockey, cultivating an expansive network throughout North America.
From 2015 to 2019, Colby served as the Director of Scouting for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL, collaborating closely with the General Manager to achieve a notable record of 144-99-20-10. His tenure saw the development of 19 NHL draft picks and over 80 NCAA DI commitments, highlighted by his role in constructing the 2019-2020 team that included Riese Gaber, named the USHL’s Player of the Year and Forward of the Year.
Earlier, from 2013 to 2017, Colby contributed significantly to the Skipjacks Hockey Program, recruiting 21 players who secured NCAA DI commitments. He also served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Skidmore College during the 2015-2016 season, recruiting 13 student-athletes who propelled the program to a national ranking in 2016-17, a milestone achieved only once previously in school history.
Colby graduated cum laude with a B.A. in History from the University of New England and earned his Master of Legal Studies from Northeastern University. He furthered his education with studies in Intellectual Property at Harvard Summer School and obtained a certificate of completion in Negotiation Mastery from Harvard Business School.
