BOSTON, MA – Army West Point hockey freshman forward Jake Hewitt has been named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week, announced today by the league.
Hewitt scored a goal in all three of Army’s contests this past week, leading the conference with five total points across the week. The Massachusetts native felt at home with all three games being played in his home state, as Army picked up a pair of victories at both Holy Cross and UMass-Lowell.
Hewitt got the week started with a highlight reel goal at Holy Cross, skating in from the center circle and finishing off a backhanded shot from the left circle before getting a takeaway and assist on a Nik Hong goal later in the game. Hewitt went on to deposit the opening goal at Merrimack, before scoring and assisting in the victory at UMass-Lowell on Saturday.
The freshman is up to four goals this season, while his nine points ranks tied for second in the conference among freshman, matching teammate Brent Keefer’s total.
